Description
A whimsically rendered youthful figure stands in a dreamlike setting, holding a heart, with fluttering butterflies. This piece is Inspired by the profound imperative found in Orwell’s 1984, “The object was not to stay alive but to stay human.” To stay ‘human.’ Because that requires a certain willingness to be humble...to show empathy and to embrace other-centeredness. It demands a living out loud of the truest meaning of ‘love’- to be patient, kind, and forbearing. The alternative involves a hardening, a callousness, and an indifference. To ‘stay human’ means we commit to feeling pain and to own up to our own frailties, weaknesses, and faults. This is this piece's story.
